How to Fold Socks

How to Fold Socks

For this reason, it is assumed that each of us has such a large number of socks that they won't fit in the drawer unless folded correctly, or at least, for most people, that's the case.

And if you don't belong to this category, we recommend you read our article anyway, as you could optimize the space used considerably, and as you know, everyone is always looking for new space to store everything they own.

The various types of socks and the need to fold them appropriately based on them

As we said earlier, socks are no longer just basic garments but, on the contrary, are used in combination with other items to create a much cooler or elegant look.

We can simply think of that trend a few years ago that included wearing socks with a large bow on the back.

Or something more common like tights and fishnet stockings that, when paired well, really make a difference in a look.

And to emphasize the importance of socks, we can say that there are some brands' socks that are very expensive and require a significant financial effort.

Similarly, there are also many materials with which socks are made that make a difference. A cotton sock will certainly be different to handle compared to a silk sock.

There are, therefore, many types of socks that are really fascinating to see and can complete a look excellently, but do you really have to respect rules for folding them to avoid ruining them? Yes, unfortunately, it's not that easy to maintain the quality of some socks without respecting some simple rules to always consider.

Just think of particular and decorated socks, maybe with prints that stick together and could be ruined, or fishnet stockings that break in no time if not used and folded with all the appropriate precautions.

The only way to preserve them is to fold them following all the instructions and store them in a place where they will not tend to be damaged.

For example, prints are easily ruined by heat, so it is not recommended to leave them near heat sources such as radiators, or exposed to sunlight for too long without turning them inside out.

The various methods for folding socks

Although it may seem very strange, there are many methods for folding socks and storing them in the drawer or wardrobe, some of which are very creative and fun, so if you have time and desire, you can try them and use your socks exactly as if they were sheets of paper and you were doing origami.

But let's not get lost in chatter and find out how to fold socks right away.

The first method is the most widespread and universal, and it involves making a sort of ball containing two perfectly paired socks.

How do you put it into practice? Simply by putting one sock on top of the other in perfect correspondence, taking care to do so on a flat surface, flattening them to eliminate any wrinkles that may have formed during drying, folding them and turning one of the two socks onto itself, as if one of them were wearing it on their foot.

It may sound complicated, but we can assure you that it's not; in fact, with a little practice, everything will become simple and automatic.

Another method is very similar to this but with a higher degree of complexity. Also, in this case, the first steps are common, so pair the socks, put one on top of the other to match them, and flatten them simply by applying a little pressure with your hands to eliminate all possible wrinkles.

The difference lies in the subsequent steps, and in this case, you will no longer make a ball but fold the sock up to the cuff, i.e., the end of the flap. Then you will have to fold a sock onto itself again so that the elastic covers both and keeps them in the position where you leave them.

And here we are at the last method we will recommend in this article, which is to roll up the socks and make them a roll to store anywhere, even in the smallest spaces. Our advice is to apply this method when packing a suitcase, thus having extremely limited spaces to use.

Again, you will need to pair the socks in the same direction, flatten them, and simply roll them onto themselves, then close the roll with the same elastic as you learned from the previous methods.

Et voila, it's done!

Why implement all these methods for folding socks? Isn't it enough to put them in the drawer?

For some, the operation of folding socks is very tedious, as they are generally different to wash, being a garment to change even several times a day.

So you could find yourself with many socks to pair and fold every day.

Is it really important to fold them correctly? Isn't it enough to put them one on top of the other and store them in the drawer? Well, if you want order and space, the answer to this question is absolutely no. Folded socks will not escape and will always be well paired and stored in their corner of space, so they will not fall as it happens with very high piles.

Plus, they will tend to wear out less, especially if they are not simple everyday cotton socks but, for example, silk, a much more delicate fabric.

All these techniques are also very useful for teaching children and contributing to their mental growth and their ability to adapt to needs, and consequently raising their level of responsibility.

An excellent exercise that could also be fun for letting their imagination and creativity run wild. Plus, every child loves to replicate what their parents do, so why not?
